That "PURICO", a white textured greasy oil (mantika) was a staple food for us in the 50's. When mixed with rice and salted fish and rolled round with our hands, 5 pieces of those, would quash our hunger till lunch time. There's not much to envy from other houses because the community was coming out of post-war trauma and there's not much food on the table. The best part was the fact that we came out of that lowly situation to be what we are now: not rich but is able to meet our basic needs and be happy in the process.
